This design was created for the home and studio of a visual artist, a 968.75 ft² loft located in the heart of Palermo Soho.
The challenge was to ensure the space felt both like a true home and an exhibition area, capturing both warmth and functionality. Key aesthetic details helped break away from the typical museum vibe: a wood stove with logs in the center of the space and vibrant colors of a rug and armchair. These elements, along with cozy sofa cushions, created an inviting atmosphere where the comfort of home blended with the artist’s gathering space.
The kitchen and dining room were fully integrated into the new layout of the space, creating a constant dialogue between classic, and modern design—a theme echoed throughout the loft. Restored furniture was also incorporated, including a classic set of Thonet chairs with a modern lacquered finish, which preserved timeless style with a contemporary edge.
On the upper level, the bedrooms and bathrooms were thoughtfully separated from the public areas. In the master bedroom, a library was designed as the main feature. Clad in wood-like melamine with graphite gray edges, it extended to the ceiling, seamlessly integrating into the room's architecture.
Green cushions, paired with bedside tables, golden light fixtures, and small sculptures, introduced vibrant colors and textures, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The secondary bedroom, designed to be spacious and flexible as a guest room, featured a bed area with green cushions arranged like a sofa to echo the master bedroom’s color palette. Lighter fabrics were chosen for this room, enhancing its relaxed atmosphere.
This room also included a desk, providing a small workspace and extending the theme of blending modern and classic elements throughout: the iconic Thonet chair was paired with a modern desk.
